GRETCHEN REEVES
Event: Ultimate Mountain Challenge
Hometown: Augusta, Georgia
The scoop: Reeves, a professional cross-country mountain biker
for Tokyo Joe's, was the winner of last year's Ultimate Mountain
Challenge at the Summer Mountain Games.
She's a formidable endurance racer, with accomplishments that
include winning the 2002 and 2003 Transalp Challenge titles and the
2004 and 2005 National Marathon cross-country titles.
She started mountain biking while studying at the University of
Georgia at Athens and moved to Vail following graduation, where she
turned pro in 1997. She still lives nearby in Edwards, and you may
have seen her racing with other local pros as part of the
Nike/Beaver Creek adventure race team. She's also an avid telemark
skier, snowshoer and backpacker.
You didn't know... She's always loved the Georgia Bulldogs.
Growing
up, her dream was to try out for the football team and be a
running back like Heisman Trophy winner Herschel Walker. She had to
settle for being a Bulldogs cheerleader which, she says, still
ended up being a lot of fun.
